Just picked up a 2009 KTM XCF (dual cam of course) 450 and need to check valves. For a company which has amazing bikes and engineering, their service manuals are absolute garbage, worthless. I cannot find TDC, after 30 mins of turning the crank end and sticking a zip tie in the spark plug hole and looking for the mark on the cam chain gear.

As with every other KTM, the 2017 450 EXC-F is fitted with Brembo front and rear brakes with a new rear brake caliper. KTM EXC 2009. Hey guys, in the Ktm manual it says to tighten the "screw, engine sprocket" to 44.3 pound ft of torque, and I've done that, but I also see "nut, primary gear" to 73.8 pound ft of torque, I'm guessing the "screw, engine sprocket" is the front sprocket, but always nice to get a second opinion. richmond, Texas. 5.0. I have raced my 450 EXC for a year now, enduro racing. It is a great bike. Problems include replacing the fork seals twice (put seal savers on, they work). You must adjust the valves every 15-25 hours for peak performance. I finished 5th in the state in my class. Engine is run stock with stock pipe.
Adjust the clearances of each valve to the recommended manufacturer specifications. When tightening the locknut, be sure to hold the screw with a screw driver at the same, applying slight anti-clockwise pressure to allow for a little tightening due to the locknut. Once the locknut is tight, check the clearance again to make sure.

Great bike still mostly stock. Still getting deceleration popping after I installed a JD jetting kit, just need to weld the exhaust to the connector adapter.
